College Year book

Cover layout

This project was a complete Yearbook incorporating a visual representation and diary of the year.   Informative to enable use as an archive document. The book was to be used as a promotional tool as well as a memorabilia for the graduating Year 12 Students. The brief required the cover to capture the College tradition and offer a contemporary freshness.

Die Cut

This project required the use of College branding for use on practical stationary. Colours could be adjusted to allow for a fresh contemporary look.

Design is so simple. That's why it's so complicated.

'hard work never hurt anyone'

I heard this 'Blackcountry' phrase so often it became ingrained

I was raised in the West Midlands, England, otherwise known as the 'Black Country' because of its industrial heritage. This gave me a grounded upbringing where it was instilled in me that 'hard work never hurt anyone'.  In School, I was drawn to History, Sport and Art.  After leaving school in the early '80's there were very few jobs as the industry in the Midlands was shutting down.  I chose to embark on a Youth Training Scheme in Interior Decorating. Although frowned upon by some (it was considered a man's job at that time) it taught me the core skills necessary for professional standards in the field.  I excelled in the practical application and I loved the core values of the scheme as it helped pensioners who would have otherwise had a hard time doing the work themselves.

Developing this interest further I attended University where I studied Interior Design. I soon put these skills to good use renovating family homes in the UK before migrating to Australia and fulfilling a childhood dream. My passion for Design has taken another direction in the form of Graphic Design. I continue to love renovating but my new skills in Graphics earn me a living. Internet Communication is my latest study area and I am loving learning new information as an Open University Student, even the technical side of things!
